Careers
Work on a tool people use to make harder decisions.
Small team. Remote-first. Most of us have taught at some point. We care about getting the honest version right more than about growth numbers.
Who we are
Seven people as of April 2026. Distributed across four countries. Most of us taught at some point, high school, undergraduate, graduate, and we build this product in part because we saw the first generation of AI detectors used in ways that hurt students we knew. The product is a bet that detection done honestly is better than either detection done aggressively or detection done not at all.
How we work
- Remote-first, with a twice-a-year team week in person.
- Async by default. We have very few standing meetings. Decisions are written down.
- Ship small. The product has shipped every week for the last 42 weeks. Small changes, reviewed carefully.
- Read the research. The category has an active academic literature. Everyone on the team reads papers.
How we hire
Short paid trials over long unpaid interviews. After a first conversation, we'll propose a 1-week paid project in your adjacent area, scoped to ~10 hours, priced at your usual rate. The project is a real thing we'd ship, not a puzzle. We hire from the project.
We do not use coding quizzes, timed assessments, or "culture fit" screens. We do check references carefully at offer stage.
Current openings
No active openings as of April 2026, we last hired in February. We keep a rolling list of roles we'd consider for exceptional candidates; email careers@aiessaydetector.ai with what you'd want to do and why this product.
Compensation and equity
We pay at or slightly above YC-standard bands for our stage. Equity is granted at hire and every year on the anniversary; vesting is 4 years with a 1-year cliff. Healthcare is covered in full in the countries where we have team members. We offer a home-office stipend and a learning-and-travel stipend.
What we don't offer
Unlimited PTO (we have a specific minimum, 25 days, because the data says unlimited plans reduce time taken). Ping-pong tables. Equity in the form of "future rounds." Any of the founder-worship habits common in the category.
